Caroline Garcia overcame Daria Kasatkina 4-6 6-1 7-6(5) to book the last spot in the semifinals of the season-ending tournament in Fort Worth, as the runner-up in the Tracy Austin Group.
In the eight-women field at the start of the WTA Finals, four players were debutantes, but only those with experience have advanced out of the group stage.
“I tried to stay very positive, keep fighting, try to play aggressive, even if she is probably the best defensive player in the world and such a fighter,” Garcia said after winning the thriller against Kasatkina.
