Great Britain’s Johanna Konta has entered uncharted territory at Eastbourne after beating Garbiñe Muguruza to reach the quarter-finals of the Aegon International.
The 24-year-old wild card removed the world No8 Ekaterina Makarova on Tuesday and followed up with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 defeat of the 14th seed Muguruza.
She will next face the Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic, who was leading Eugenie Bouchard 6-4, 3-0 before the Canadian retired hurt from their third-round match at Devonshire Park.
The Australia-born Konta is ranked 146th in the world and has been handed a wild card into Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.
