Bianca Andreescu will not play the Internazionali BNL d’Italia because of one former positive test for coronavirus and strict government rules in Italy.
Before traveling to play the Mutua Madrid Open, Andreescu had tested negative twice, but tested positive for COVID-19 upon her arrival in the Spanish capital and she thus had to skip the WTA 1000 tournament.
After completing the isolation in Madrid, Andreescu tested negative and was back in full training. However, the Italian government rules put her at risk of being isolated again if she travels to Italy, so the 20-year-old decided to skip the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, yet another important tournament on clay this season.
