British number two Aljaz Bedene is into the second round of the Winston-Salem Open after a straight-sets victory over Italy's Marco Cecchinato.
The Slovenian-born 26-year-old came through 6-2 6-2 against the world number 102 in North Carolina.
He plays number one seed Gilles Simon of France on Tuesday for a place in the last 16 of the $695,000 (£440,000) tournament which ends on Saturday.
The world number 58 was granted British citizenship in March.
However, the International Tennis Federation rejected his application to represent Britain in the Davis Cup as he has previously played for Slovenia.
