World number one Ashleigh Barty overcame an early deficit to battle past reigning Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova 7-5 6-3 and move into her first Wimbledon quarterfinals.
The 14th-seeded Krejcikova was the first to take charge with a 3-1 lead in the opening set and held on to that lead until the eighth game when Barty leveled to 4-4. In her next service game, Krejcikova saved a set point before holding serve, but Barty followed up by winning two consecutive games at love to take the set.
The 2019 French Open champion Barty went 4-2 up in the second set and even though Krejcikova got that one break back, the Australian again stole her opponent’s serve for a 5-3 lead and sealed the match with an ace in her service game.
