Three of the four this year's US Open semifinalists are 32 years or older and now that the first semi is finished the youngest player of the final four is out, as 23-year-old Simona Halep won only four games against Flavia Pennetta, losing 6-1 6-3.
Pennetta made her first major final by stunning the second-ranked player in the world, and as a 33-year-old, she's the oldest first-time Grand Slam finalist in the Open Era. Compared to the other three 2015 US Open semifinalists, the 26th-seeded Pennetta had the highest-ranked opponents on average (No.58) and the Italian proved her skills once again on Friday by winning five straight games against Halep to take the first set and from 3-1 down in the second set won all the games till the finish.
