On Monday, Sports Illustrated announced Serena Williams as the 2015 Sportsperson of the Year, making her the first woman to win (alone) since 1983, when runner Mary Decker took the prize. She is just the third women's tennis player to claim the prestigious award after Chris Evert (1976) and Billie Jean King (1972).
Serena posed for fierce and thought-provoking photos in the magazine, adding her own unique input into the shoot. Her goal was to create the visual embodiment of power and femininity.
