Four-star 2017 wide receiver and North Carolina Tar Heels commit Tyler Smith received an offer from the Tennessee Volunteers nine months ago, but his first visit to Knoxville was pushed out all the way to this weekend for the program's Junior Day.
However, it appears the visit was well worth the wait.
“They’ve always been in contact with me, ever since I got my first couple of offers, so we decided to go check them out,” Smith said after the visit.
“It’s obviously a great school, but I’m still committed to North Carolina. It’s definitely a school that I’d like to visit again. This visit, my cousin took me, so I definitely want to get my dad up here.”
Ranked as the #25 wide receiver in the 2017 recruiting class by 247Sports, Smith currently has eight outstanding offers on the table. His other offers, other than from UNC and the Vols, come from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, NC State and Florida.
With his son already garnering plenty of interest, Smith's dad wants Tyler to keep an open mind about the process going forward.
“My dad, he wants me to keep my options open and see what else there is. He wants me to have the full experience of being an athlete,” he said. “We talked to the coaches from Georgia, and that might be my next visit.”
