Vols’ coaching staff could undergo makeover of sorts

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — With the regular season completed, college football’s silly season is under way — and in full force.

Most of the head-coaching vacancies have been filled, which means the new coaches need to fill our their staffs. Assistants from all over the nation are being called for interviews, and Tennessee has not been immune.

Vols tight ends coach/special teams coach Mark Elder has been hired as Eastern Kentucky’s coach. Elder’s special teams unit has been one of the best in the nation in just about every category, particularly kick and punt returns. He also was Tennessee’s lead recruiter in the Memphis area as well as in some parts of North Carolina.
