Tennessee made a six-figure profit from its Music City Bowl appearance at the end of the 2016 season despite totaling more than $1.07 million in expenses.
The accrued costs — which included the football program, marching band and university administrators — totaled $1,070,759, according to the UT financial summary sent to the NCAA and obtained by GoVols247 on Monday via an open records request.
However, Tennessee is expecting to receive a bowl-participant distribution of $1.3 million and a travel allowance of $44,500 from the SEC for a $273,741 profit for the in-state trip, according to assistant athletic director for media relations Tom Satkowiak.
