The football team won’t the only University of Tennessee entity in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday: 24 UT Police officers will be there, as well, to work the Florida-Tennessee game.
Their help is needed in the wake of Hurricane Irma, which impacted almost the entire state of Florida last weekend. As such, some personnel who usually work Florida home games will be elsewhere, and that’s where the UT officers come in.
“When we saw what happened in Florida last week, obviously I was concerned about our colleagues there,” said Troy Lane, associate vice chancellor for public safety and chief of UT police, during a news conference Wednesday.
