UNC Greensboro (4-3) avoided a sweep by defeating Tennessee (4-3) 3-2 on Sunday behind two home runs from Dillon Stewart.
Tennessee starter Will Neely gave up one run on three hits in five innings of work, but Tennessee’s lone reliever, Garrett Crochet, surrendered the two solo home runs to Stewart in his four innings.
Tennessee trailed 3-1 entering the ninth inning, but freshman Zach Daniels hit his third home run of the season to pull the Volunteers within one. However, UT was not able to cross the plate again.
The Vols left nine men on base, including two in the seventh inning, which ended on an extremely close play with Andre Lipcius at first base.
