KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee junior safety Todd Kelly Jr. doesn’t engage in coach-speak – or player-speak. So when he was asked why the Vols are struggling to stop the run – an average of 395.5 rush yards allowed in the past two games and 215.3 for the season – he didn’t mince words.
“I think the biggest component is not communicating properly and that disables us to line up as a defense the way we’re supposed to, with all gaps filled in terms of scheme,” Kelly said. “You can put up the Xs and Os, but if we don’t communicate to make that work out, there are going to be errors.
