Tennessee Volunteers defensive tackle Alexis Johnson was arrested for aggravated assault Wednesday night and subsequently suspended from the team.
Johnson faces charges of aggravated assault (strangulation) and false imprisonment.
A Tennessee spokesman told Chattanooga Times Free Press reporter Patrick Brown that Johnson "has been suspended from all football activities."
As of 11:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Johnson had not yet bonded out of the Knox County Detention Center.
Johnson enrolled at Tennessee last month as a transfer from Fort Scott Community College and was expected to immediately bolster the Volunteers' depth along the defensive line.
