Tennessee picked up its fifth defensive line commitment for 2017 when three-star prospect Matthew Butler picked the Vols on Wednesday over South Carolina, Penn State and Texas A&M.
Butler (6 feet 4, 265 pounds), from Garner (N.C.) High, near Raleigh, played defensive end in high school, but some schools project him as an eventual defensive tackle.
“Really, honestly, they’ve been my leader since the summer,” Butler told 247Sports.
Butler joins defensive tackles Eric Crosby and Kivon Bennett and defensive ends LaTrell Bumphus and Deandre Johnson as Vols commitments along the defensive front.
