Tennessee pitcher AJ Russell officially done for the year, set to undergo Tommy John surgery

According to multiple reports now, Tennessee right-hander AJ Russell has been shut down for the season and will undergo Tommy John surgery. Russell was declared out last weekend during the Super Regionals, and now will officially miss the remainder of the NCAA Tournament.

The timeline for recovery from surgery is roughly one year, so obviously his status for next season is now in doubt. Keep in mind too that Russell is considered a top MLB prospect for 2025.

We last saw Russell in the SEC Tournament, where he worked an inning each against Vanderbilt and LSU.
