In theory, Tennessee football should not be settling for assistants to be its next head coach. The Vols are too big of a program to let that happen when they could pick from the best of the best. It just makes no sense.
However, the Vols have had pretty much everybody under the sky named as a possible Butch Jones replacement. This has been happening for three weeks now, and Jones hasn’t even been fired yet.
Still, if they are going to replace Jones with an assistant in 2018, the good news is they actually have a solid collection of guys to pick from.
