Tennessee football reported 4 minor NCAA violations

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that the four violations were among 18 made by the school’s athletic program overall and that the punishments for the minor violations were approved by the NCAA.

In one case, Volunteers secondary coach Willie Martinez was suspended for the 2015 season opener against Bowling Green for improper contact with a prospective recruit during the spring evaluation period of 2014.

Another violation was from a recruit and his family walking into a Tennessee basketball game behind coach Butch Jones and drawing cheers from the crowd. The violation came in the recruit acknowledging the crowd, and the program admitted that this “may have drawn attention to the prospective student-athlete.
