Fair or not, Tennessee football head coach Butch Jones is on the hot seat heading into the 2017 season. Despite turning around a program that had fallen off the face of the Earth, there’s a lot of impatience around him right now.
There are plenty of reasons for the hot seat talk. An underachieving 2016 season started it. No Top 10 finish or divisional title in four years as head coach is another. And, finally, a new athletic director in John Currie makes things interesting.
Despite what Currie might say, and he has defended Jones, we all know athletic directors are less invested in guys they didn’t hire.
