Tennessee DT Alexis Johnson arrested on 2 charges

Tennessee defensive tackle Alexis Johnson, a junior college transfer who enrolled last month, was arrested in Knoxville on Wednesday night for aggravated assault by strangulation and false imprisonment.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that the alleged victim told police that horseplay early Sunday morning turned violent and that a witness said Johnson “appeared to be really punching her.”

A Tennessee athletic department spokesman told the News Sentinel that Johnson has been suspended from team activities.

Johnson, who is from the Atlanta area, was a four-star recruit who transferred from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.
