KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – When Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart was unable to get an extension on a contract that had two years remaining, he decided it was time to step down.
Hart hired an attorney to execute his exit contract. He then announced August 18 that he was retiring as UT’s athletic director, effective June 30, 2017. His announcement came shortly after Chancellor Jimmy Cheek announced he was stepping down to return to the class room.
Why did Hart feel compelled to say last summer that he was stepping down when his contract ran through September 18, 2018?
