KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – It was early July. I was driving out of town when I called a friend in Tennessee’s athletic department.
He told me UT athletic director Dave Hart would announce his retirement before the end of December. I was skeptical but I didn’t doubt it. Then, I was told Sunday that Hart had hired an attorney to execute his exit contract.
It didn’t take long: Hart announced his retirement Thursday, effective June 30, 2017. He makes about $800,000 per year. His contract was due to expire Sept. 18, 2018.
Hart is 67.
