Five-time pro bowl wide receiver Wes Welker is supposedly interested in becoming a football coach. According to Wes Rucker of GoVols247.com, Welker was in Knoxville to discuss a possible position on the Volunteers coaching staff.
It is unclear exactly what role Welker would serve if hired. It is worth noting that the Vols have one full-time coaching opening on the staff with former offensive coordinator Mike DeBord leaving for Indiana. Welker, with no coaching experience, certainly wouldn’t replace the offensive coordinator however.
It’s been speculated that the Vols could go with either tight ends coach Larry Scott or wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni to fill that coordinator position.
