Given the fact that the Tennessee Volunteers had a sizable drop-off on defense this year despite having almost everybody back, it’s understandable why the Vols parted ways with defensive coordinator John Jancek.
After all, Tennessee’s defense gave up far too many big plays throughout the year, and Jancek was responsible for maybe the worst play call in history on the fourth and 14 game-winning touchdown that the Florida Gators scored to beat the Vols.
However, Jancek’s departure is a bit of a shock, especially since the defense came on pretty strong at the end of the year and saved its best showing for the end: the Outback Bowl in which the Vols beat the Northwestern Wildcats 45-6.
