Penn State suing Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop for breach of contract

Penn State is suing Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop for breach of contract, claiming Shoop owes the university almost $900,000 after leaving the Nittany Lions for the Vols after the 2015 season.

In its lawsuit, Penn State says Shoop, who had coached in Happy Valley for two seasons, has not complied with a buyout clause that was part of a contract extension agreed to in 2015.

The clause said Shoop would owe the school 50 percent of his remaining base salary — which totals $891,856 — if he took a non-head coaching job within one year of leaving the program.
