National Acclaim For UT’s Carter

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee women’s basketball redshirt junior Andraya Carter has been selected as the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year, Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine announced on Thursday.

Carter, who previously won the sport award for women’s basketball, was a finalist for the women’s national honor along with soccer player Nandi Mehta of Northwestern, and softball player Alyssa Domico of Dominican.

Paul Pitts III, a football player from San Diego State, was named the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Male Sports Scholar of the Year.

Carter, a 5-foot-9 guard from Flowery Branch, Ga.
