KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee coach Butch Jones should have no shortage of candidates to replace Mike DeBord, who accepted a job Tuesday as offensive coordinator at Indiana.
Jones has known for months that DeBord planned to retire, so Jones has been compiling a list of candidates, a well-placed source said. Instead of retiring, though, DeBord — an Indiana native — took the job at IU to be near family and grandchildren.
DeBord was not fired or forced out.
Jones is looking for a solid play-caller and someone who is also a good developer of quarterbacks, the source said.
