Part of Tennessee’s coaching staff shuffle during the offseason involved bringing back someone already familiar with Jeremy Pruitt’s program in Knoxville. Shelton Felton was hired as Chris Rumph’s replacement at outside linebackers coach after Rumph took a job with the Houston Texans.
Felton was a part of Pruitt’s initial staff in Knoxville, serving as a quality control analyst. Pruitt was clearly impressed with Felton’s work in year one, allowing him to stand in and go out on the recruiting trail after the 2018 season. However, a spot on the field as an assistant wasn’t readily available.
