KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Mercedes Russell had 23 points and 10 boards and Andraya Carter added 19 points to lead Tennessee to a 101-59 victory over Carson-Newman in Monday's exhibition at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols outscored the Eagles, 37-11, in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 42-point win. Carson-Newman's three-point shooting (11-of-31) kept the Eagles within 15 points until UT's fourth-quarter explosion.
Five Lady Vols scored in double figures in Tennessee's first game after the NCAA changed the women's format to four quarters this summer. Russell was strong around the basket, shooting 9-of-15 hauling down four offensive rebounds.
