The Lady Vols kicked off basketball season in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon with a victory over Western Kentucky, moving to 1-0 on the season. It was an 87-47 victory for the Lady Vols, who really took control in the second quarter and never looked back.
Tennessee extended its 17-13 advantage after the first quarter, outscoring the Hilltoppers 21-7 in the second quarter. The rout was on from there.
The Lady Vols shot 44 percent from the field and nearly doubled up Western Kentucky on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 56 to 32. Rae Burrell led the way with 18 points, followed by Jordan Walker with 13, Marta Suarez with 11 and Rennia Davis with 10.
