Just like Friday, Tennessee baseball had no issues with Hofstra on game No. 2 of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon. It was another run-rule effort for the Volunteers, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
Marcus Phillips got his first start of the season this afternoon and threw four innings. He would go 55 total pitches, giving up just one hit on the day. Phillips struck out four of the 16 batters he faced.
The Tennessee offense gave him a lead in the second inning, plating two on a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch. Tennessee added four in the next inning — three of which came on a Chris Newstrom double.
