The suit, filed by six women, said school officials were “deliberately indifferent” before five rapes and also afterward; “>the lawsuit says three of the rapes were committed by Vols football players, one by a UT basketball player and one by a non-athlete at the school “where the underage victim became intoxicated with alcohol provided by football players at a party.”
The suit says school officials created a “hostile sexual environment” with their non-action.
“UT had actual notice (and itself created) a long-standing, severely hostile sexual environment of rape by male athletes (particularly football players) that was condoned and completely unaddressed by UT officials, including Chancellor Jimmy Cheek, Athletic Department Director and Vice-Chancellor Dave Hart and head football coach Butch Jones,” the lawsuit said.
