KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It appears Tennessee will be filling another coaching vacancy soon.
Utah State running backs coach/tight ends coach Mike Canales reportedly will take over the Volunteers’ vacant quarterbacks coach position. And while it’s not a flashy hire, Canales does have the experience – and connections – that suggest it could be a good hire.
Canales, 55, has worked at the Division I level since 1995, and also spent one season as an assistant with the New York Jets. He has spent 15 seasons as an offensive coordinator and was interim coach at North Texas for 11 games in 2015.
