Former Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Michael Williams will go on trial today as he faces charges of aggravated rape along with former teammate and linebacker A.J. Johnson. The Associated Press reported the story.
Williams and Johnson face two counts apiece of aggravated rape, each man having been accused of “aiding and abetting” the other. Johnson’s legal team asked for and was granted a separate trial, set to begin on September 29.
Both men are accused of assaulting a woman at a Knoxville apartment back in November, with few details offered beyond that. Johnson and Williams were indicted in February and subsequently suspended from the team.
