Tennessee officially has an open scholarship spot to fill.
DJ Burns, who entered the transfer portal last week, has announced his commitment to Winthrop this morning.
The former four-star recruit opted to transfer from Tennessee curiously after the Vols swung and missed on Kerry Blackshear Jr. Burns was in line to at least be in the frontcourt rotation this season after the departures of Kyle Alexander, Grant Williams and Derrick Walker.
Burns now heads home to Rock Hill, South Carolina to join Winthrop.
What the DJ Burns transfer means right now and in the future
The move leaves Tennessee thin in the post, unless Rick Barnes and staff can make a late addition.
