What started as an idea, became a website, then turned into hope now is one of the coolest spectacles in college football – “Checker Neyland.”
The idea was started in 2014 by Cleveland, Tenn., native Spencer Barnett on Twitter. After watching the Vols play at Oklahoma in mid-September 2014, when fans had striped Memorial Stadium in crimson and cream, Barnett had an idea that Tennessee could do it, and do it better, with roughly 20,000 more fans.
So, the graphic designer fired up Photoshop, found an overhead photo of Neyland Stadium at capacity and colored in the first photo of the “Checker Neyland” concept.
