KNOXVILLE --Women’s basketball redshirt junior Andraya Carter and women’s golf junior Lucia Polo were named winners of the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award for their respective sports.
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine announced the sports awards on Thursday for 36 different sports.
Carter was named a semifinalist for the national award alongside Tennessee football player Brian Randolph last week.
Carter is a redshirt junior guard on the women’s basketball team. She is averaging 5.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season while serving as one of the leaders on the Lady Vols team that reached the semifinals of the SEC Tournament last week.
