Former Tennessee cornerback Cam Sutton likely will be selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. When it happens, he’ll become the first Tennessee cornerback drafted in 10 years.
The Volunteers haven’t produced a drafted cornerback since Jonathan Wade was taken in the third round of the 2007 draft. Since then, the only other Tennessee defensive back selected in the draft was safety Eric Berry at No. 5 overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010.
That’s a huge gap for a program that, at one time, was among the top drafted schools in college football. But that’s how much Tennessee has struggled in recruiting during its nearly decade-long rebuilding project.
