Albert Haynesworth: Vols’ D-line ‘like Secretariat … hooked up to a plow’

What made former Tennessee and NFL star defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth compare a defensive line to a Triple Crown horse? A too-tame style that he says just isn’t right.

Haynesworth said the Vols must return to their attacking approach from the Phillip Fulmer-John Chavis era during his appearance on “The Midday 180” on Nashville radio station 104.5 The Zone.

Haynesworth said the Tennessee defensive line, with players such as Kahlil McKenzie, Jonathan Kongbo, Shy Tuttle and Kyle Phillips, is being tied down to a read-and-react system that stifles their natural aggressiveness.

“I think by far that’s the best talent on the team, our defensive line,” Haynesworth said.
