Sophomore right-hander AJ Russell will not be available for this weekend’s Super Regional round, Tennessee coach Tony Vitello announced on Tuesday. Russell has been trying to work back from an injury suffered in late March.
Tennessee has only gotten six total appearances out of Russell this season, the last one coming during the SEC Tournament. The Volunteers eased him back in, allowing him to come in against Vanderbilt in relief. He threw 22 pitches in that appearance, but we haven’t seen him since.
“Nothing specific as far as what the next step will be for him, but he’ll be unavailable,” Vitello said.
