2017 Tennessee recruiting review: Almost all the work was done pre-NSD

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — There wasn’t quite the excitement for this year’s recruiting class at Tennessee as there had been for past classes in the Butch Jones era. The reason is simple: It’s an average class in a year where recruiting should have been easier for Jones and his staff.

The only thing that the staff couldn’t really sell this cycle was guaranteed playing time, and it’s difficult for fans to get excited for class made of almost all three-star recruits, with just one five-star signee.

At a glance, it’s a Derek Dooley-level recruiting class and a step down from what Vols fans are accustomed to seeing from Butch Jones.
