One of the best Week 2 matchups features a pair of Top 25 teams. Both the No. 19 Oklahoma Sooners and No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers are coming off Week 1 wins. So who gets a resume boost with a win over a Power Conference team in Week 2? Here's our game preview and prediction.
Oklahoma Preview:
The Sooners cruised to a 41-3 win over Akron. Oklahoma struggled early, putting up only three points in the first half and went into half time up only 17-3. QB Baker Mayfield picked up his game in the second half, en route to 388 yards and three scores. Running back Samaje Perine was surprisingly quite, picking up 33 yards on only 11 carries. He needs more work going forward.
Tennessee Preview:
The Vols held on for a 59-31 win over Bowling Green in the season opener. The running game was incredible for the Volunteers, racking up 399 yards. QB Joshua Dobbs chipped in 205 yards through the air. The defense had problems against Bowling Green, but the Falcons' offense is wildly underrated. Tennessee will be just fine on defense going forward.
What To Watch For: Fast Starts
If Oklahoma doesn't start scoring quickly, the Sooners could be in trouble. Putting up only 3 first quarter points against Akron isn't a big deal. Doing so against Tennessee is another story. The team that starts off strong will put itself in position to add a big win.
Prediction: Tennessee Wins 34-30
It's a close game, but a slow start and playing on the road dooms the Sooners. Tennessee has another strong running game and the Volunteers take a big jump in the polls.
