Tennessee's 3 Most Likely Bowl Opponents

Tennessee became bowl eligible for the first time since 2010 with a win over Vanderbilt in the last game of their season. Now that we know the Vols will be in the postseason, who will they most likely end up playing?

Virginia Tech

Similar to Tennessee, the Hokies had to win their last game of the season to become bowl eligible and have a large following. A Tennessee-Virginia Tech matchup would certainly draw a lot of fan and television interest and give the Volunteers a chance to test themselves against a big-time team with big-time talent.  This is a good option for both the Music City Bowl and the Independence Bowl.

Duke

Two straight losses for the Blue Devils have dropped them down the ACC rankings, but are still in position to go to the Music City Bowl. Tennessee will almost certainly end up there, which would create a matchup between two programs on the rise. While the Blue Devils might not draw the fan interest some other teams will, they will provide the Vols with the best game.

Memphis

There are two scenarios in which these two in-state rivals could face off in a bowl game. One option would be the Birmingham Bowl (where a SEC team will face an AAC team), and they other would be to have Memphis take the spot of an ACC team in the Music City Bowl. The latter probably won't happen, but it would be the most intriguing for people in the state of Tennessee.
