The Tennessee football coaching search is back to square one - Jon Gruden has informed the Tennessee Athletic Dept. that he is not interested in the job and that they should look at other candidates.
WNML AM-FM in Knoxville is reporting that Gruden informed UT officials today after having brief phone conversations last week. As Chat Sports reported yesterday, Gruden was offered $36 Million contract to be the coach of the Vols. Talks reportedly went sour when the assistant coaches salary pool was much less than Gruden wanted. Reportedly, Gruden was prepared to bring an all-star cast of coaches with him to Knoxville if he were to come.
While there are several highly paid coordinators in the SEC (and other conferences), sources are claiming that Gruden was asking for $4M a year just for his coordinators and another $2M for the assistants. Those figueres would be double any other school in America. Ultimately, not getting an immediate yes to these demands irked Gruden, who informed the school through his agent that he will not consider Knoxville as a destination.
On to the next one.....
