2015 three-star Coalfield (Tenn.) High School offensive lineman Zach Stewart committed to Tennessee football back in April 2013, sticking with his pledge for two years as the team's longest tenured commitment of the class.
Now Stewart is just a few days away from beginning prep for his summer classes in Knoxville.
“It’s definitely exciting,” said Stewart pf his impending move to campus on Thursday, via 247Sports. “I’ve been knowing this was going to happen for a long time, so it’s kind of cool knowing it’s right here now.
“It really is crazy. I’ve been committed longer than anybody. I was the first one to send in my papers, so I’ve been signed longer than everybody. It’s a surreal thing to think of when you know it’s finally here on you.”
The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder has been doing extra work "in the weight room and running a lot" to get into the game shape Tennessee's defensive coaches are looking for.
“I’ve been following the instruction manual, the weight program they gave us. And then anything extra I can get in on top of that, I include also,” Stewart said. “Before that, I was bench-pressing about 435 pounds. And then, after about a month and a half, two months into that, I hit 500.
"There’s definitely been improvement.”
