Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Joshua Dobbs has seen his draft stock rise after his solid career with the Vols, with ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. saying that Dobbs could end up being a second-round pick. Despite the inconsistencies with his accuracy, many teams around the league are targeting him as a developmental quarterback that could take over as a starter in a few years. Here are the three teams that are the most likely to draft him:
1) Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are showing a lot of interest in Dobbs in the pre-draft process as they look to find an eventual replacement for Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben admitted he was thinking of retiring earlier this offseason, and while he expects to play a few more years, it's clear the end is coming - and they're not sold on Landry Jones taking the reins at that point.
With a few years for Dobbs to work on his accuracy before seeing the field, Pittsburgh could be a perfect fit for Dobbs. His mobility and ability to keep plays alive would also keep that component in the Steelers' offense.
2) Los Angeles Chargers
LA's interest in Dobbs will be about who is available in the second round. With the No. 7 pick in the first round, they are not going to draft a quarterback, but they do need to find a long-term replacement for Philip Rivers. If Patrick Mahomes is available in the second round, they may pull the trigger on him. However, if they pass on a quarterback again in the second round and Dobbs is available in the third, I don't think they'll pass on him. He'll pick up the offense quickly and be able to operate in a pinch if Rivers gets hurt, but should still get that year or two to develop.
3) Cleveland Browns
The Browns are the real wild card in the picture for Dobbs. They're expected to take a quarterback with the No. 12 overall pick, but won't do it if there isn't a quarterback they like that's available at the time. And, they reportedly really like Dobbs after coaching him at the Senior Bowl and could be willing to wait on him until the third round.
