The Tennessee Volunteers pulled off another miracle last weekend, using a Hail Mary to get past Georgia as time expired. Up next comes their toughest test yet in No. 8 Texas A&M in a battle of 5-0 SEC contenders with College Football Playoff dreams. Here are three reasons why the Vols will beat the Aggies in College Station this weekend:
3) Josh Dobbs, Heisman contender
Dobbs' struggles had really limited Tennessee's offense this season, but has broken out in a big way with multiple passing touchdowns (and at least three total touchdowns) in four straight games. Josh Malone has stepped up and finally given him a go-to receiver, which has made a big difference in Dobbs' confidence throwing the ball down the field. He won't play that well every time out, but just knowing they have the option to throw the ball all over the field makes this offense even more difficult to defend.
2) Trevor Knight's inconsistency
The Oklahoma transfer appears to have resurrected his collegiate career with the Aggies, leading them to this undefeated start while showing a good handling of head coach Kevin Sumlin's offense. However, many have overlooked the many times Knight has struggled this year. He's barely completing 54 percent of his passes and is averaging less than seven yards per attempt, showing his unwillingness - or inability - to drive the ball down the field with consistency. And, in this pass-happy offense, he has only thrown for more than 250 yards once.
Tennessee's defense is as good as any in the country, especially their pass rush (led by Derek Barnett). Expect them to get after Knight and make him uncomfortable on every snap - which will lead to incompletions and turnovers.
1) Team of destiny
There is something clearly special about this Vols team. They have been trailing by double digits in four of their five games - and won them all. They snapped an 11-game losing streak to Florida. They won at Georgia on a Hail Mary after nearly blowing the game. All of that has led to an insane belief that they will win every single game - and we've seen what that has done or them.
