Spring practice is over for the Tennessee Volunteers, but that doesn’t mean we’re done analyzing what we saw in our first look at head coach Butch Jones' 2015 squad. Here’s our list of 3 Burning Questions For Tennessee Following Spring Practice:
3) Can Joshua Dobb continue to progress?
Dobbs led Tennessee to a 4-2 record after taking over during the last six games of the season, passing for 1,206 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 469 yards and eight more touchdowns. He needs to improve his decision making, but having a whole offseason as the starter should help in that regard. His athleticism and arm talent make him a dangerous weapon, and Dobbs has the potential be the breakout star in the SEC.
2) Will Jalen Hurd become a star?
Jalen Hurd's game-breaking potential is the biggest reason why many people are expecting think Tennessee can become one of the top teams in the SEC in 2015. He ran for 899 yards and five touchdowns on just 199 carries as a true freshman and will look to become one of the best running backs in the nation in his sophomore campaign. His touches may be cut into with the arrival of Alabama transfer Alvin Kamara, but the Vols need Hurd to develop into the star they brought him in to be for them to reach expectations.
1) How will Tennessee's young defensive players develop?
The Vols have made steady progress under coach Butch Jones, who was able to move the program forward in the win column despite playing 23 true freshmen – the most in the nation – last season. However, they ranked near the bottom of the SEC on defense because of that youth, giving up 360 yards per game. If Tennessee wants to take the next step and get back to the top of the SEC, they need their young defensive stars to improve and develop.
