Ensworth cornerback Wesley Walker is still three years away from having to make his final college decision, but that's not stopping the Tennessee Volunteers from making a play to bring him in with the 2019 recruiting class.
Walker picked up his first offer from the Vols on Thursday, finding out about the offer via his head coach talked with Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. The young defensive back standout was extremely thrilled by the news.
“I guess they looked at my (film on) HUDL and they liked it, and they called my coaches, and one of my coaches told me that they gave me the offer,” said Walker, who’s currently projected to be one of the top talents in the state for the 2019 cycle, per 247Sports' Ryan Callahan.
“I was (hoping to get) my first offer, like, in two months or (at) the start of the summer. That’s what I was planning on. But I’m glad I got it right now. I didn’t know when it would come.”
Walker said he is "planning to go" to the team's Junior Day next weekend after receiving an invite, and he's even more intrigued about the visit with an offer in hand.
“I’m just wanting to see what it’s like up there,” Walker said.
“My uncle, he’s always been a UT fan, so it wore off on me, kind of, because I’m a fan of them, too,” he added. “I grew up liking LSU, but UT is one of my favorite teams, too.”
Walker added that, while he currently plays cornerback, he feels he'll end up being recruited as a safety.
