Marcus Mariota plays through left knee injury

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota took a big shot in the second quarter of Tennessee’s game against Miami.

He was hit on the side of his left knee by Miami’s Olivier Vernon who was flagged for a roughing the passer penalty.

Mariota remained in the game after being attended to by medical staff. The game stoppage for the roughing penalty allowed him to stay on the field. Zach Mettenberger was on the field and ready to take over but ultimately returned to the sideline.

Three plays later, Mariota attempted a pass that was initially ruled incomplete.
